Our Mission is Posted!

Mr. Pruitt delivered our poster of our class mission!

Our First Celebration

We had our first school-wide celebration last Friday.  We have a celebration once a month and parents are welcome to attend.  You will be notified ahead of time if your child will be receiving an individual award or recognition.

At Friday's celebration, we learned the procedures for celebrations including saying the pledge.  All the principal leadership counsel members for each classroom were announced.  Each class also said their class mission.  We are proud to have Lilly representing us!

We wrapped up our celebration with dancing to our school song.  On the way back to our classroom, everyone said they had a great time!  We love the wildcat pride and positivity that spreads from our students!

Highlights from Week 3

We've been having so much fun.  This week was full of explorations, letters, numbers, and making proactive choices about our learning.  Here are some of the highlights from the week!

In math, we've been working hard on counting and number sense.  Students have been ordering numbers, subatizing dots and five frames, and comparing numbers.  We also used math games on the iPads for the first time!

Letterland is a blast and we really enjoy phonics with Ms. Anderson and Ms. Burton.  We sing, we sort words by their beginning sounds, and Letterland even came to life with Clever Cat and Golden Girl making an appearance.  I wonder who will pop up next week!

We recognized Constitution Day on Friday by learning about what our US Constitution is and why it is so important.  We then created our own class constitution and took turns signing it.

We hope everyone has had a fun and relaxing weekend.  See you on Monday!

Keep on Swimming

Our kindergarteners are working hard.  We are falling into a routine and its starting to feel like a normal Kindergarten day.  We are no longer having to practice so many procedures and we are able to spend more time learning and exploring!

Our highlight of the week was Ms. Anderson and Ms. Burton beginning our Letterland program.  They will be coming into our rooms Monday-Thursday for phonics instruction and it will also give us the ability to break into four small groups.

Here are some pictures with some other highlights of the week.  Be sure to check your child's folder each Monday for our newsletter with more information on what we are learning and how you can help at home.

Working in collaborative pairs to practice counting strategies.

Using step by step instructions to draw people.

Our people drawings are looking good!

So much growth in a week.

We read Rainbow Fish and made our own!

We used tissue paper and glue to make our rainbow fish.

We were so impressed with the cutting skills we observed!

This was a sweet moment I did not capture fast enough.  Both girls were cutting out the fish.  Together is better!

Wildcat Team Time

Every morning we start our day with Wildcat Team Time.  This is a time where we set the tone for the day and learn how to be the best Wildcats we can be.  This week we have been working on creating our class mission.  Students talked in pairs and whole group about why we come to school, how we want to feel when we come to school, and how we want to make others feel.  Through our conversations we came up with our class mission.

Mr. Pruitt is working on making a poster for us.  We decorated our cut out hands as a promise to follow our class mission.  When our poster is ready, we will put our hands all around the mission.  (You know I'll post a picture when it is ready!)

Next week we begin our exploration of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids.  This is a book by Sean Covey that is based on the book 7 Habits of Highly Successful People by Stephen Covey.  The habits are centered around leadership and everyone finding the leader within themselves.  Habit 1 is "Be Proactive."  More information on this habit is included in our weekly newsletter coming home on Monday.

Pinch Me...I am Dreaming

If anyone were to walk into our classroom this week, they would have had no idea it was the first week of Kindergarten.  In fact, other students and teachers HAVE noticed while we've been walking in line in the hallways and getting so many compliments.  Parents, you would be so proud of your children if you had been a fly on the wall this week.  Everyone has been so kind, respectful and AWESOME Wildcats.

Here are some things we've been doing this week:

We've practiced breakfast procedures.  Every morning we eat breakfast in our room.  It is part of the universal breakfast program.

We explored math tools like play-doh and five-frames, teddy bear counters, dice, and snap cubes.

We received two different shirts!  One was a purple Dana shirt to show our Wildcat pride on Wednesdays and one was a Class of 2029 shirt.  I told our students to keep it somewhere safe so they could find it and wear it when they are seniors in high school. (That's why it's so big!)

We played outside.

We took brain breaks to keep moving and adjust our little bodies to working so hard! We use Go Noodle and you can also create an account at home!

We even began working in collaborative pairs.  This is a way for everyone to communicate and share what they are thinking and learning.

It was such a great week!  We are looking forward to all the learning and fun we are going to do next week.  Enjoy this holiday weekend.  It's supposed to be a beautiful one.  My family and I are traveling to Virginia for a lake weekend except a Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hermine may make it a wet one!
