Getting Ready

A school year begins in the summer, not long after you wrap up the previous year in June.  You spend the first two weeks of summer soaking up the sun and your family and then it begins.  You start to miss your job.  You start to think about the upcoming school year and the way you want to set up your room.  "Oh, I'll just run by the school to pick up a few things," you think to yourself.  But suddenly six hours later, you have your furniture rearranged, manipulatives unpacked, and computers hooked back up. (For those of you that don't know, rooms get cleaned over the summer so you have to set up your room each year.)  You see, when you are a teacher, it is in your blood.  It's not something easily put on the back burner for two months.  Needless to say, I am more than ready to get this show on the road!

This is what our classroom looked like over the summer.

This is our classroom when I left on Friday afternoon!

This week was all about professional development, finishing touches, and labeling everything in sight with 22 names names belonging to our precious Kindergarteners. Mrs. Kruse and I loved meeting everyone who was able to make it out to Meet the Teacher.  This is going to be a fantastic year.

Parents, this week will be full of emotions.  You will feel sentimental sending your baby off to Kindergarten whether it is your first or your last.  Your child will love school, yet be so exhausted by the end of the day he or she may be falling asleep at the dinner table.  This week is full of compassion, patience, and empathy for what everyone in each of their roles is going through.  :)

Be sure to read the special card that was sent home at Meet the Teacher the night before your child comes to school.  It's a little something to help calm the anxieties that naturally exist before starting anything new.  Know that your children are in good hands as their love for learning continues to grow.

Summertime and the Living is Easy - But August is HERE!

Wow!  It's hard to believe that summer is slowly rolling out and before we know it, we will be back in school and back to pumpkin everything and changing leaves.  It's one of my favorite times of the year.  To my past students, I hope you have had a fun, restful summer and that you are ready for the upcoming year.

For my new students, WELCOME!  I am so glad you are here.  Kindergarten is full of wonder, adventure, and SO much learning.  I look forward to getting to know you over the coming weeks and months.  Here are some important things to know as we get ready for the 2016-2017 school year.

8 non-gel glue sticks
2 boxes of crayons (24 count)
1 large pink or white eraser (block)
1 box of tissue
4 composition books (sewn, not spiral-bound)
1 towel for rest time (labeled with name)
1 pair of headphones

Important Dates:
  • Thursday, August 25th - Meet the Teacher - 4pm-6pm - Come by between 4-6 to meet your teachers and see your classroom!  You are welcome to bring your supplies if you would like to drop them off before the first day.
  • Monday, August 29th & Tuesday August 30th - First Day of School - In Kindergarten, we do a split start.  Half the class will come on Monday and half the class will come on Tuesday.  Everyone comes on Wednesday. Please refer to the letter that was sent home as to when your child is starting OR check with us at Meet the Teacher.
In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer!  We hope you have been reading with family members, practicing letters, and counting to 10 (and maybe beyond!).  I've been fortunate to spend quality time with my husband and two daughters.  Here are some pictures of our summer!
